Born Kathryn Louise Allen in San Jose, California, Wolf began her musical career in the San Francisco Bay Area folk scene in the 1960s. She was influenced by Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, and the burgeoning folk revival movement.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Wolf released a series of critically acclaimed albums, including "Lines on the Paper" (1976), "Back Roads" (1979), "Give Yourself to Love" (1982), and "Poet's Heart" (1985). Her songs often explored themes of love, loss, nature, and social justice.

Wolf's songwriting drew heavily from her personal experiences and observations. Some of her most well-known songs include "Give Yourself to Love," which became a standard at folk gatherings, "Across the Great Divide," and "Unfinished Life."

Despite battling leukemia for several years, Wolf continued to write and perform until shortly before her death in 1986.
