Karlštejn (Beroun District)
Karlštejn is a municipality and village in the Beroun District of the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is best known for Karlštejn Castle, a large Gothic castle founded in 1348 by Charles IV, Holy Roman Emperor and King of Bohemia.
The village itself is located along the Berounka River and serves primarily as a tourist destination due to the castle. The municipality covers an area of approximately 11.75 square kilometers (4.54 sq mi) and had a population of around 800 inhabitants as of 2023.
Aside from tourism, the area surrounding Karlštejn is characterized by agriculture and viticulture. The castle dominates the landscape and is a major draw for visitors interested in Czech history and architecture. The municipality is accessible by road and rail, with a train station serving the Prague-Beroun line.
