Jonathan Williams (horn player)
Jonathan Williams is a British horn player known for his versatility as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral principal. He is currently Principal Horn of the Philharmonia Orchestra, a position he has held since 2018.
Williams studied at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Thompson. Before joining the Philharmonia, he was Principal Horn of the BBC Philharmonic. He has also performed as guest principal with numerous other orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, and the Chamber Orchestra of Europe.
As a soloist, Williams has performed concertos by Mozart, Strauss, and Ligeti, among others. He is also a passionate advocate for contemporary music and has premiered several new works for the horn. His chamber music collaborations include performances with ensembles such as the Nash Ensemble and the Britten Sinfonia. He has released several recordings, showcasing his diverse repertoire and virtuosic playing. He is also a professor at the Royal Academy of Music.
