USS Rescue (1861)

The USS Rescue was a steam-powered tugboat acquired by the Union Navy during the American Civil War. She was used primarily for towing, reconnaissance, and blockade duty. Purchased in 1861, the Rescue served throughout the war, primarily in the waters of the Chesapeake Bay and the James River. She aided in logistical support for Union forces and participated in operations against Confederate vessels and fortifications. After the war, the Rescue was sold into private ownership. Her civilian service details are not widely documented.
