John W. Anderson (politician)

John W. Anderson (born August 12, 1917, near Pilot Point, Texas; died March 28, 2001, Bradenton, Florida) was a U.S. Representative from Illinois.

Anderson served as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1961 to 1981, representing Illinois's 16th congressional district. Prior to his congressional service, he served as the state's attorney of Winnebago County, Illinois, from 1952 to 1960.

During his time in Congress, Anderson was known for his moderate Republicanism and his involvement in various committees, including the House Rules Committee. He was a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and limited government. He unsuccessfully sought the Republican nomination for President of the United States in 1980, withdrawing his candidacy and endorsing Ronald Reagan.

After leaving Congress, Anderson practiced law and remained active in political affairs.
