The Pelican (film)

The Pelican is a proposed American thriller film project announced in 1997, intended to star Julia Roberts and Denzel Washington. Based on the John Grisham novel The Pelican Brief, it would have been a sequel to the 1993 film adaptation of the same name. However, the project was never realized and ultimately remained in development hell. Reportedly, salary demands from both Roberts and Washington, coupled with creative disagreements on the script and direction the sequel should take, contributed to the film's abandonment. The original film, The Pelican Brief, saw Roberts and Washington playing different characters; The Pelican aimed to reprise their roles from that film, Darby Shaw and Gray Grantham, respectively. The sequel's plot details were never officially released, but it was expected to follow Darby and Gray as they investigate a new conspiracy.
