John Sullivan (Oklahoma politician)

John Sullivan (born August 31, 1965) is an American politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Oklahoma's 1st congressional district from 2003 to 2013. A Republican, Sullivan previously served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1995 to 2002, representing District 71.

Sullivan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He graduated from Edison High School and later attended Oklahoma State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.

Prior to entering politics, Sullivan worked in the private sector.

During his time in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, Sullivan served on several committees, including Appropriations and Education. He focused on issues such as tax cuts and education reform.

In 2002, Sullivan ran for the U.S. House seat vacated by Steve Largent, who resigned to become president and CEO of the Seattle Seahawks. He won the special election and was subsequently re-elected four times.

In Congress, Sullivan served on the House Energy and Commerce Committee. He advocated for policies related to energy independence, national security, and fiscal conservatism. He also sponsored and supported legislation related to Native American affairs due to the presence of numerous Native American tribes within his congressional district.

Sullivan was defeated in the 2012 Republican primary by Jim Bridenstine. After leaving Congress, Sullivan has remained active in the Tulsa community.
