Outside the Law (1956 film)

Outside the Law is a 1956 film noir crime drama directed by Jack Arnold and starring Ray Danton, Leigh Snowden, and Grant Williams. The film tells the story of a former war hero who goes undercover to infiltrate a gang of criminals involved in counterfeiting and bank robbery.

The plot revolves around John Conrad (Ray Danton), a paratrooper framed for desertion during World War II. He is approached by the U.S. Treasury Department, who offer him a chance to clear his name by going undercover to expose a criminal enterprise led by the ruthless Frank O'Neal (Raymond Bailey) and his violent henchman, Don Kastner (Onslow Stevens). Conrad is tasked with proving that O'Neal and Kastner are involved in printing counterfeit money and planning a large-scale bank heist.

Conrad, assuming the alias "Johnny Bartok," successfully infiltrates the gang, facing constant suspicion and dangerous situations. He forms a complex relationship with Lila (Leigh Snowden), a nightclub singer who is also involved with the criminals. As he gathers evidence, Conrad must navigate the treacherous world of organized crime while attempting to maintain his cover and avoid being exposed. The film culminates in a tense showdown where Conrad's true identity is revealed, leading to a violent confrontation with O'Neal and Kastner and the eventual apprehension of the criminals.
