John Stephenson (baseball)
John Stephenson (born June 22, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama) is a former professional baseball player who played primarily as a catcher in Major League Baseball (MLB) from 1964 to 1975.
Stephenson began his MLB career with the Chicago Cubs, playing for them from 1964 to 1971. He was known for his strong throwing arm and defensive abilities behind the plate. Although not a prolific hitter, he was a valuable asset to the Cubs' pitching staff.
After his time with the Cubs, Stephenson played for the San Diego Padres (1972-1973) and the Los Angeles Dodgers (1973-1975). He served as a backup catcher for much of his career, providing veteran leadership and stability.
Following his playing career, Stephenson remained involved in baseball, working as a coach. He is remembered for his contributions to several MLB teams during his time in the league.
