John Sands (journalist)

John Sands (1930 – 2003) was an American journalist and television news correspondent, best known for his long career with CBS News.

Sands joined CBS in 1956 and served in various roles, including as a reporter and editor. He became a full-time correspondent in 1965. Over the years, Sands covered numerous major events, including the Vietnam War, the civil rights movement, and presidential elections. He reported extensively from Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

His reporting was characterized by its insightful analysis and calm, measured delivery. He was known for his ability to explain complex issues clearly and concisely. After leaving CBS News in the early 1990s, he continued to work as a freelance journalist. He also taught journalism at several universities. He died in 2003 in New York City.
