John Russel (cricketer)

John Russel (born 17 January 1964) is a former Zimbabwean cricketer who played first-class and List A cricket for Matabeleland and Zimbabwe B between 1986 and 1998. A right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler, Russel primarily played as a top-order batsman. He scored a century in first-class cricket, a score of 127 against Mashonaland in 1994/95. Although he never played Test cricket, Russel represented Zimbabwe in 4 One Day International (ODI) matches in 1994, scoring 39 runs with a highest score of 25. His career coincided with Zimbabwe's transition into a Test-playing nation, but he was ultimately unable to secure a permanent place in the national side. After his playing career, he remained involved in Zimbabwean cricket at the club level.
