John Laycock (Australian politician)
John Laycock (1907-1991) was an Australian politician who served as a Senator for Queensland from 1958 to 1975, representing the Liberal Party.
Born in Brisbane, Queensland, Laycock was educated at Brisbane Grammar School and the University of Queensland, where he studied law. Prior to entering politics, he practiced as a solicitor.
Laycock entered the Senate in 1958, filling a casual vacancy caused by the death of Senator Annabelle Rankin. He was subsequently elected to the Senate in his own right in 1961, 1967 and 1974.
During his time in the Senate, Laycock served on several parliamentary committees, including the Senate Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances and the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and Defence. He was known for his conservative views and strong advocacy for Queensland's interests.
Laycock retired from the Senate in 1975. He passed away in 1991.
