Jim Johnson (jockey)

Jim Johnson was an American Hall of Fame jockey, particularly known for his success in the early to mid-20th century. He was born on September 26, 1916, in Lockport, Illinois, and died on July 27, 1994.

Johnson rode numerous champions and won many important races throughout his career. Some of his most notable achievements include victories in the Kentucky Derby (1940, Gallahadion), the Preakness Stakes (1940, Gallahadion), and the Belmont Stakes (1945, Pavot). His Triple Crown bid in 1940 was thwarted when Gallahadion finished off the board in the Belmont.

Johnson was inducted into the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 1970. He is remembered as a highly skilled and respected rider during a golden era of American horseracing. After retiring from riding, Johnson worked as a racing official. His contributions to the sport earned him a place among its legends.
