Uncle (British TV series)
Uncle is a British sitcom written and created by Oliver Refson. The series stars Nick Helm as Andy, a depressed and suicidal musician who unexpectedly forms a close bond with his 12-year-old nephew, Errol (Elliot Speller-Gillott), after being reluctantly tasked with looking after him for the day.
The show explores themes of depression, family relationships, unconventional friendship, and growing up. Andy's irresponsible and often self-destructive behaviour clashes with Errol's more mature and optimistic outlook, leading to humorous and often touching situations.
The series premiered on Channel 4's Comedy Lab strand in December 2012 as a pilot episode. Following a positive reception, it was commissioned for a full series. The first series aired in January 2014, followed by a second series in February 2015, and a third and final series in January 2017.
Uncle is known for its dark humour, its soundtrack featuring original songs performed by Nick Helm, and its exploration of complex characters and relatable issues. The series was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Situation Comedy in 2015. Key supporting cast members included Daisy Haggard, Esther Smith, and Daniel Lawrence Taylor.
