Clitheroe is a market town and civil parish in the Borough of Ribble Valley, Lancashire, England. It is located near the River Ribble and is overlooked by Clitheroe Castle, a Norman keep perched atop a limestone knoll.

History:

Clitheroe's history dates back to the Norman Conquest, with Clitheroe Castle being constructed around 1186. The town grew around the castle and became an important market center for the surrounding agricultural area. Clitheroe was granted a royal charter in 1283, solidifying its status as a borough. The town prospered during the Industrial Revolution, with industries such as cotton weaving and limestone quarrying becoming significant.
