Jelep La
Jelep La is a high mountain pass located on the border between Sikkim, India and Tibet (China). The pass connects Lhasa, Tibet with India.
Historically, Jelep La was an important trade route between India and Tibet. It is lower than the Nathu La pass, making it more accessible. The pass is situated at an altitude of approximately 4,267 meters (13,999 feet).
The pass offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The landscape around Jelep La is characterized by rugged terrain and sparse vegetation.
Due to its strategic location, Jelep La has military significance, and access is restricted. It is subject to border regulations between India and China. While not as widely used as some other passes in the region in recent years, it remains an important geographical feature of the Indo-Tibetan border.
