James Iha
James Yoshinobu Iha (born March 26, 1968) is an American rock musician. He is best known as a guitarist and co-founder of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins.
Iha joined Billy Corgan in Chicago to form The Smashing Pumpkins in 1988. With the addition of D'arcy Wretzky and Jimmy Chamberlin, the band achieved mainstream success throughout the 1990s. Iha contributed not only guitar work but also songwriting and occasional lead vocals to the band's albums.
Following the initial breakup of The Smashing Pumpkins in 2000, Iha pursued various musical projects. He released a solo album, Let It Come Down, in 1998 and collaborated with other artists, including contributing to Ivy, a band he co-founded.
In addition to his work with The Smashing Pumpkins and his solo material, Iha has been involved in fashion, owning the clothing line Vaporize. He has also worked as a guitarist and songwriter for A Perfect Circle since 2003.
In 2018, Iha rejoined The Smashing Pumpkins for the Shiny and Oh So Bright, Vol. 1 / LP: No Past. No Future. No Sun. album and subsequent tours. He remains an active member of the band as of the present day. His musical style is characterized by melodic guitar work, often utilizing effects and textures that complement the band's overall sound.
