Ivo Pelay
Ivo Pelay (born Ivo Lancellotti, November 12, 1893, Rome - October 20, 1959, Buenos Aires) was an Italian-Argentine playwright, screenwriter, journalist, and tango lyricist. He is considered a significant figure in the development of Argentine theater and tango.
Pelay immigrated to Argentina with his family at a young age. He began his career as a journalist and writer, eventually finding success as a playwright. His theatrical works were popular for their humor, social commentary, and exploration of Argentine identity.
As a tango lyricist, Pelay collaborated with prominent composers such as Francisco Canaro, Anselmo Aieta, and Juan Carlos Cobián. He is known for his witty and often satirical lyrics that captured the spirit of Buenos Aires and its inhabitants. Some of his most famous tangos include "Malevaje," "Milonguita," "El Ciruja," and "Así se baila el tango."
