Canoona

Canoona is a rural locality in the Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. It is situated approximately 45 kilometres (28 miles) south of Rockhampton.

The area is largely agricultural, with cattle grazing being a prominent industry. The name "Canoona" is believed to derive from an Aboriginal word.

Historically, Canoona was the site of a brief gold rush in the late 19th century. The Canoona goldfield, discovered in 1858, attracted a significant influx of prospectors for a short period. However, the gold deposits proved to be shallow and quickly exhausted, leading to a rapid decline in population and economic activity. The Canoona goldfield is remembered as a significant, albeit short-lived, event in Queensland's gold mining history.

Today, Canoona is a quiet rural community with a small population. It primarily serves the surrounding agricultural area and offers limited services. The area's historical significance is sometimes acknowledged through local heritage markers and historical societies.
