Ithaca (town), New York

Ithaca is a town located in Tompkins County, New York, United States. Situated on the southern shore of Cayuga Lake, it forms part of the Finger Lakes region. As of the 2020 census, the town had a population of 31,245.

Geography:

The Town of Ithaca surrounds, but does not include, the City of Ithaca. The town is primarily characterized by rolling hills and gorges carved by streams flowing into Cayuga Lake. Its landscape is a product of glacial activity that shaped the Finger Lakes region.

History:

The area was originally inhabited by the Cayuga Nation, one of the five nations of the Iroquois Confederacy. The Town of Ithaca was officially formed in 1821 from parts of the towns of Ulysses and Dryden.
