Ion Ioanid

Ion Ioanid is a Romanian computer scientist and professor of computer science at Stanford University. He is known for his research in database management systems, data mining, and distributed systems.

Ioanid received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1990. Before joining Stanford, he was a researcher at the University of California, Berkeley.

His research contributions span several key areas:

• Query Optimization: Ioanid has made significant contributions to cost-based query optimization, including work on cardinality estimation and join ordering.
• Data Mining: He has conducted research on data mining techniques for large datasets, including association rule mining and clustering.
• Distributed Systems: His work in distributed systems has focused on topics such as distributed query processing and data replication.

Ioanid is a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). He has received several awards for his research contributions, including the ACM SIGMOD Edgar F. Codd Innovations Award.
