Insidious (film)
Insidious is a 2010 American supernatural horror film directed by James Wan, written by Leigh Whannell, and starring Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne, and Barbara Hershey. It is the first installment in the Insidious franchise.
The film centers on Josh and Renai Lambert, a young married couple, whose son Dalton inexplicably falls into a coma after an accident in their attic. They soon begin to experience terrifying supernatural events in their new home, leading them to discover that Dalton's spirit is trapped in a realm called "The Further," a dark and terrifying place inhabited by tormented souls and malevolent entities.
Hoping to save their son, the Lamberts enlist the help of Elise Rainier, a paranormal investigator, and her assistants, Specs and Tucker. Elise, who is a friend of Josh's mother, Lorraine, realizes that Dalton is an astral projector and has been venturing too far into The Further, attracting the attention of a malevolent demon known as the Lipstick-Face Demon.
The film explores themes of family, fear, and the afterlife. It gained significant popularity upon its release, praised for its suspenseful atmosphere, jump scares, and creative use of sound design. Insidious was a commercial success and launched a successful horror franchise consisting of sequels and prequels, each exploring different aspects of The Further and the various entities that reside within.
