Transparent (band)
Transparent was an American alternative rock band formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, in the early 1990s. The band's core members were Rob Ladd (drums), Robert Sledge (bass), and Gordon Bradley (guitar and vocals).
Transparent released two full-length albums on Mammoth Records: Thoughts (1994) and Velvet Exit (1996). Their music was characterized by its melodic structures, introspective lyrics, and a blend of alternative rock sensibilities with elements of pop and jangle-pop.
While Transparent did not achieve mainstream commercial success, they gained a following within the alternative rock scene and were known for their energetic live performances. They toured extensively throughout the United States, opening for bands such as Archers of Loaf and Superchunk.
After Mammoth Records was acquired by Disney, Transparent experienced a period of uncertainty regarding their label support. They eventually disbanded in the late 1990s.
Following the dissolution of Transparent, the members pursued various musical projects. Robert Sledge is perhaps best known for his subsequent work as the bassist for Ben Folds Five. Rob Ladd has continued to work as a session drummer and producer. Gordon Bradley has remained active in the music industry, focusing on songwriting and production.
Although Transparent's discography is relatively small, their albums are remembered by fans of 1990s alternative rock for their quality songwriting and musicianship.
