1945 New Year Honours (New Zealand)
The 1945 New Year Honours in New Zealand were appointments by King George VI to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by citizens of the Dominion of New Zealand. They were published on 1 January 1945.
The honours celebrated the contribution of New Zealanders during the Second World War, both military and civilian. A significant portion of the awards were for service in the armed forces, recognizing gallantry, leadership, and dedication to duty. Civil awards acknowledged contributions to war efforts on the home front, including essential industries, public service, and voluntary organizations.
Recipients of knighthoods and other senior honours were formally invested at a ceremony presided over by the Governor-General of New Zealand. The honours list detailed recipients of distinctions within various orders, including the Order of the British Empire (OBE, MBE), the British Empire Medal (BEM), and military decorations such as the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), the Military Cross (MC), and the Distinguished Flying Cross (DFC). The citations accompanying the awards provided details of the acts of bravery or meritorious service that led to the recognition.
