In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida (album)

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is the second studio album by the American rock band Iron Butterfly, released in June 1968. It is best known for its title track, which occupies the entire second side of the LP and runs for over 17 minutes.

The album was a commercial success, reaching number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart in the United States and becoming a platinum-selling record. It is considered a landmark album in the development of psychedelic rock and heavy metal, featuring extended instrumental passages and distorted organ sounds.

The album's other tracks include "Most Anything You Want," "Flowers and Beads," "My Mirage," and "Termination." While these tracks received some airplay, it was the epic title track that cemented the album's place in rock history.

The title "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida" is a slurred pronunciation of "In the Garden of Eden," reportedly coined by drummer Ron Bushy. The album's cover art features a psychedelic butterfly design. The album’s success helped establish Iron Butterfly as a major act of the late 1960s.
