I Told You So (Keith Urban song)
"I Told You So" is a song written by Steve McEwan and Hillary Lindsey, and recorded by Keith Urban for his 2006 album, Love, Pain & the Whole Crazy Thing. It was released in April 2007 as the fifth and final single from the album.
The song is a mid-tempo country ballad where the narrator reflects on a past relationship where he warned his partner about the consequences of their actions. The "I told you so" isn't delivered in a boastful manner, but rather with a sense of regret and empathy, acknowledging the pain caused by the situation.
"I Told You So" reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in the United States.
The song has been covered by several other artists, notably Carrie Underwood, who performed it on American Idol and later released a duet version with Randy Travis on her album Carnival Ride (2007). Underwood's version became a crossover hit. While Keith Urban's version is considered the original recording, Underwood's rendition is arguably better known and more commercially successful.
