Hope (American band)

Hope was an American post-hardcore band formed in 1999 in Richmond, Virginia. The band was known for its intense live performances and emotionally charged lyrics, often dealing with themes of loss, faith, and personal struggle.

Hope consisted of vocalist and guitarist Aaron Turner, guitarist David Neil, bassist Matt Krewalk, and drummer Kevin Schindel. The band released several EPs and two full-length albums: Of Hope and Future Loss (2000) on Silent Note Records and The Arborist (2003) on Solid State Records.

Hope's sound was characterized by a blend of aggressive, dissonant guitars, dynamic shifts between quiet, introspective passages and explosive bursts of energy, and Turner's distinctive, often screamed vocals. They were frequently compared to bands like Converge, Neurosis, and Isis, and were considered influential in the development of the post-metal and metalcore genres.

The band toured extensively throughout the United States and Europe, sharing the stage with a variety of artists across the hardcore, metal, and experimental music scenes. Hope disbanded in 2005, with its members going on to pursue other musical projects. Aaron Turner later formed the band Palms with members of Deftones. David Neil went on to play in other Richmond-based bands.
