Hadrianopolis (Pisidia)

Hadrianopolis was an ancient city located in the region of Pisidia in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). Its precise location is debated, but it is generally believed to have been situated in the mountainous region north of Antalya (ancient Attaleia).

The city's name indicates its foundation or re-foundation under the Roman Emperor Hadrian (reigned 117-138 AD). During the Roman period, Pisidia experienced a degree of urbanization and prosperity, and Hadrianopolis likely benefited from this. The settlement probably existed prior to Hadrian's reign, but its significance increased and the name was altered in his honor.

Little is known about the political or social structure of Hadrianopolis. It likely functioned as a regional center for agriculture and local trade. Inscriptions and archaeological remains, including fragments of buildings and pottery, suggest a Roman presence and influence. The city's history after the Roman period is largely unknown, though it probably experienced the decline that affected much of Pisidia in late antiquity.

While archaeological investigations have been conducted in the region, the specific site of Hadrianopolis is not conclusively identified, nor has it been extensively excavated. Therefore, detailed knowledge of its history, urban layout, and material culture remains limited.
