HMS Plucky (1916)
HMS Plucky was a P-class patrol sloop of the Royal Navy, built by Armstrong Whitworth and launched in 1916. Her primary role during World War I was minesweeping and anti-submarine patrol. Plucky was designed for coastal operations and was equipped with a 4-inch gun and depth charges to counter submarine threats.
Following the war, she was converted to a minelayer in 1920. This involved modifying her stern to accommodate mine rails and the fitting of additional equipment for mine handling. In this capacity, she participated in various exercises and peacetime operations throughout the 1920s.
Plucky's career was relatively short. She was sold out of the service and broken up for scrap in 1932. While not a vessel of major historical significance, Plucky represents a class of ship crucial for maintaining sea lanes and countering enemy submarine activity during a period of naval warfare dominated by larger capital ships.
