Charles Dent (politician)

Charles Walter "Charlie" Dent (born May 24, 1960) is an American politician who served as a Republican member of the United States House of Representatives for Pennsylvania's 15th congressional district from 2005 to 2018.

Prior to his service in Congress, Dent served in the Pennsylvania General Assembly for 14 years, first in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives (1991-1998) and then in the Pennsylvania State Senate (1999-2004).

Dent was known as a moderate Republican and a leading voice of the Tuesday Group, a caucus of moderate Republican House members. He often spoke out against political polarization and advocated for bipartisan solutions.

During his time in Congress, Dent served on the House Appropriations Committee and the House Ethics Committee. He was a strong advocate for fiscal responsibility and national security.

In May 2017, Dent announced that he would not seek re-election in 2018. He subsequently resigned from Congress in May 2018 to take a position as a political analyst for CNN.
