Italian ship San Marco (L 9893)
The San Marco (L 9893) is an amphibious transport dock (LPD) of the Italian Navy (Marina Militare). She is the lead ship of the San Giorgio class, which also includes the San Giorgio and San Giusto.
The San Marco is designed to transport troops, vehicles, and supplies, and to land them ashore via helicopters or landing craft. She has a full-length flight deck capable of operating helicopters, and a floodable dock in the stern for landing craft. The ship also has command and control facilities, as well as hospital facilities.
She was laid down in 1985, launched in 1987, and commissioned in 1988. The San Marco has participated in numerous operations, including peacekeeping missions and humanitarian aid efforts.
