Enrique Rodríguez (rugby union)
Enrique "Topo" Rodríguez (born 20 January 1951) is a former Argentine and Australian rugby union player. A prop, he is considered one of the greatest Argentine players of all time and was also notable for his career in Australia.
Rodríguez played 24 times for Argentina between 1979 and 1987, including at the 1987 Rugby World Cup. He also toured South Africa with the South American Jaguars team in 1980. He gained international recognition for his strength and scrummaging ability.
After moving to Australia in the mid-1980s, he played for New South Wales and was selected for the Wallabies. He played 9 tests for Australia between 1988 and 1991, an unusual achievement for a player who had already represented another country at international level. He became the oldest Australian to debut in international rugby union at the age of 37.
Rodríguez is remembered for his contribution to both Argentine and Australian rugby, his longevity, and his technical proficiency. He has continued to be involved in rugby after his playing career, coaching and mentoring young players.
