Yi Sheng

Yi Sheng (医生) is the Mandarin Chinese term for "doctor" or "physician." The term refers to a trained and licensed medical professional who practices medicine, diagnoses illnesses, and prescribes treatments. The scope of "Yi Sheng" encompasses a wide range of medical specializations, including general practitioners, specialists, surgeons, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners, provided they are licensed to practice medicine. The term is widely used in mainland China, Taiwan, and other Chinese-speaking communities to refer to individuals who provide medical care. A female doctor is also referred to as "Yi Sheng", the term being gender-neutral. The respect afforded to the role of "Yi Sheng" is generally high within Chinese culture due to their responsibility for maintaining and restoring health.
