Journeyman (TV series)
Journeyman was an American science fiction romance television series created by Kevin Falls, which aired on NBC from September 24, 2007, to December 19, 2007. The show stars Kevin McKidd as Dan Vasser, a San Francisco-based reporter who inexplicably begins time traveling.
Premise: Dan Vasser, a happily married man with a young son, lives a normal life until he suddenly begins involuntarily traveling through time. Initially confused and disoriented, he eventually realizes that each journey is triggered by a specific person he must help or an event he must influence. These interventions often have unforeseen consequences in his present, straining his relationships with his wife, Katie (Gretchen Egolf), and his brother, Jack (Reed Diamond). As he grapples with the ethical implications and personal costs of his time travel, Dan attempts to understand the rules governing his abilities and the reason behind his mission. He also discovers that he is not alone; he encounters other time travelers with their own agendas, some of whom may be working against him. Livia Beale (Moon Bloodgood), a woman from Dan's past, plays a significant role as he uncovers more about his condition.
Characters:
- Dan Vasser (Kevin McKidd): The protagonist, a newspaper reporter who unexpectedly begins time traveling.
- Katie Vasser (Gretchen Egolf): Dan's wife, a museum curator, who struggles to understand Dan's increasingly erratic behavior.
- Jack Vasser (Reed Diamond): Dan's brother, a police detective, who serves as a confidante but also becomes suspicious of Dan's actions.
- Livia Beale (Moon Bloodgood): A woman from Dan's past who also time travels and has a connection to his abilities.
Cancellation: Despite critical acclaim and a devoted fanbase, Journeyman was canceled by NBC after only 13 episodes due to low ratings and the 2007-2008 Writers Guild of America strike. Fans campaigned to save the show, but these efforts were unsuccessful.
Legacy: Journeyman is remembered for its intriguing premise, compelling characters, and exploration of themes such as fate, free will, and the impact of choices on the present and future. Despite its short run, it gained a cult following and is considered by many to be a well-crafted and thought-provoking science fiction series.
