HMS Jackal (F22)

HMS Jackal (F22) was a Royal Navy Type 22 frigate, Batch 1. Built by Yarrow Shipbuilders, she was commissioned in 1983 and decommissioned in 1996.

Operational History:

HMS Jackal served primarily in the North Atlantic and Mediterranean. During her commission, she participated in numerous NATO exercises. While her service life was relatively short, she played a role in maintaining maritime security and demonstrating British naval power. She did not see action in any major conflicts.

Characteristics:

As a Batch 1 Type 22 frigate, Jackal was designed for anti-submarine warfare. She displaced approximately 4,000 tons and was armed with a Sea Wolf missile system for air defense, torpedoes for anti-submarine warfare, and a 4.5-inch gun for surface engagement. She also carried a Lynx helicopter for reconnaissance and anti-submarine operations.

Fate:

After being decommissioned in 1996, HMS Jackal was sold to Romania in 2003 and renamed Regina Maria (F221). She continues to serve in the Romanian Naval Forces after undergoing modernization.
