Globarene
Globarene is a neologism, a relatively new word, proposed to describe a hypothetical or conceptual geological epoch or era characterized by widespread, human-caused (anthropogenic) alterations to the Earth's geological record, climate, and biosphere, that are even more pervasive and globally interconnected than those attributed to the Anthropocene.
The term is often used speculatively or critically, suggesting a future state where human influence has become so deeply embedded in the planet's systems that distinguishing between natural processes and human impact becomes virtually impossible. It implies a level of planetary manipulation and interconnectedness far exceeding current conditions, potentially including geoengineering projects, pervasive plastic pollution at the molecular level, widespread genetic modification of organisms, and the artificial creation of novel ecosystems and even new forms of life.
Globarene builds upon the concept of the Anthropocene but goes beyond simply acknowledging human influence. It suggests a future where the Earth system itself is fundamentally re-engineered by humanity, blurring the lines between the natural and the artificial. The term often carries connotations of both technological hubris and potentially catastrophic ecological consequences.
While the Anthropocene is already widely discussed and debated within scientific and academic communities, the Globarene remains largely within the realm of futurology, speculative fiction, and critical theory. Its scientific validity and the likelihood of its realization are subjects of ongoing discussion.
