Gish Mill

Gish Mill is a historic grist mill located in Fincastle, Virginia, USA. Built in 1845 by the Gish family, it operated as a water-powered mill for over a century, grinding grains like wheat and corn for local farmers. The mill is significant for its architecture, a blend of Federal and Greek Revival styles, and its role in the agricultural and economic history of Botetourt County.

The Gish Mill ceased commercial operation in the mid-20th century and fell into disrepair. In the late 20th and early 21st centuries, efforts were made to preserve and restore the structure. The property has been repurposed and now operates as a unique event venue and lodging facility. Its preservation reflects a commitment to retaining local history and repurposing historic structures for modern use. The mill's original milling machinery is largely intact, allowing visitors to observe the technology used in 19th-century grist milling. The site is a contributing property to the Fincastle Historic District.
