Ristolas

Ristolas is a village and former commune in the Hautes-Alpes department in southeastern France. On 1 January 2019, it was merged into the new commune Abriès-Ristolas. Situated in the Queyras Regional Natural Park, it is known for its remote location and unspoiled natural environment. The village is the highest in the Queyras valley, lying at an altitude of approximately 1,600 meters (5,200 feet).

Historically, Ristolas was an agricultural community, with transhumance (seasonal movement of livestock) playing an important role in the local economy. Tourism has become increasingly significant in recent decades, with visitors attracted by the hiking, skiing (cross-country skiing in particular), and other outdoor recreational opportunities offered by the surrounding mountains.

The village retains a traditional architectural character, featuring stone houses and wooden chalets. The nearby Refuge Agnel, a mountain refuge located near the border with Italy, is a popular destination for hikers and mountaineers. The GR58 hiking trail, also known as the Tour du Queyras, passes through Ristolas, providing access to the surrounding peaks and valleys. The commune's motto was "Deus Nobiscum Quis Contra" which translated from Latin is "God with us, who against us?".
