Giant Steps (band)
Giant Steps was a British indie pop band active in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Formed in Birmingham, England, the band was led by singer/songwriter Jamie Stewart. They are perhaps best known for their singles "The Grove of Love" and "Another Day."
The band's sound was characterized by melodic songwriting, layered instrumentation including horns and strings, and Stewart's distinctive vocals. They drew comparisons to bands like The Smiths and Prefab Sprout, and were associated with the sophisti-pop genre.
Giant Steps released several singles and two studio albums: Book of Lies (1989) and The Biggest Parade (1992). Despite critical acclaim and a devoted following, they did not achieve mainstream commercial success. The band dissolved in the mid-1990s. While Jamie Stewart continued to pursue musical projects, Giant Steps remained largely dormant. Their music has since found a new audience through online streaming and reissues, solidifying their status as a cult favorite indie band.
