GMG Radio

GMG Radio was a British commercial radio group owned by Guardian Media Group. It operated a portfolio of national and regional radio stations across the United Kingdom, focusing on a variety of formats including adult contemporary, rock, and speech radio.

The company was formed in 2006 through the merger of Guardian Media Group's existing radio assets. Its most notable stations included:

• Smooth Radio: A national adult contemporary music station playing a mix of classic songs and current hits.

• Real Radio: A network of regional adult contemporary music stations broadcasting across various regions of the UK.

• Rock Radio: A rock music station targeting a male audience.

GMG Radio was later sold to Global Radio in 2012. Following the acquisition, the Real Radio stations were rebranded under the Heart Radio banner, and Rock Radio was closed. Smooth Radio was retained by Global Radio and continues to operate. The acquisition significantly expanded Global Radio's reach and market share within the UK commercial radio landscape.
