Nanno (cephalopod)

Nanno is a genus of small, deep-sea octopuses belonging to the family Octopodidae. These octopuses are characterized by their small size, gelatinous bodies, and relatively simple morphology. They are found in deep ocean environments worldwide.

While the exact number of species within the Nanno genus is still debated and subject to change as new research emerges, they are generally considered to be a distinct group within the larger Octopodidae family.

Nanno octopuses are typically found at depths ranging from several hundred to several thousand meters. Due to the challenges of studying deep-sea creatures, much remains unknown about their behavior, diet, and reproduction. However, they are believed to be opportunistic feeders, preying on small crustaceans and other invertebrates found in the deep-sea environment.

Their translucent or pale coloration is likely an adaptation to the low-light conditions of their habitat. Research on these octopuses often relies on remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and other specialized equipment capable of reaching extreme depths.
