Fukang (automotive brand)
Fukang was an automotive brand used by Dongfeng Peugeot-Citroën Automobile (DPCA), a joint venture between Dongfeng Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroën (now Stellantis). The brand was primarily used for a localized version of the Citroën ZX hatchback and sedan, produced and sold in China starting in the early 1990s.
The Fukang was significant in the Chinese automotive market as one of the first modern, affordable, and mass-produced passenger cars available to Chinese consumers. It played a key role in popularizing the hatchback body style in China, which was relatively uncommon at the time of its introduction.
Over time, the Fukang received updates and facelifts, but it largely retained its original ZX-based design. DPCA eventually phased out the Fukang brand in favor of newer Citroën models and locally developed vehicles. While the Fukang name is no longer in production, it remains a recognizable symbol of early automotive development in China and the growth of the country's domestic auto industry. The name "Fukang" is often associated with reliability and durability due to its long production run and association with a relatively well-engineered (for the time) European design.
