Freebie and the Bean (TV series)
Freebie and the Bean was a short-lived American action-comedy television series that aired on CBS in 1980. It was based on the 1974 film of the same name. The series starred Tom Mason as Tim "Freebie" Walker and Hector Elizondo as Dan "Bean" Delgado, two unorthodox and often reckless police detectives working for the Los Angeles Police Department.
Unlike the film, which was a more action-oriented comedy, the television series leaned more heavily into broad slapstick humor. The show revolved around Freebie and Bean's unconventional methods of solving crimes, which often resulted in property damage and chaotic situations. A recurring theme involved their strained yet ultimately supportive partnership, fueled by contrasting personalities and cultural backgrounds.
The series was cancelled after only nine episodes due to low ratings and negative reviews. Critics generally found the humor to be forced and the plots uninspired compared to the film. While the original movie has retained a cult following, the television adaptation is largely forgotten.
