Floreffe
Floreffe is a Belgian abbey beer, historically brewed at and named after the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Floreffe, a Premonstratensian abbey located in Floreffe, Belgium. The abbey itself dates back to the 12th century, although commercial brewing activities are now carried out under license by the Lefebvre Brewery.
Floreffe beers are typically bottle-conditioned and refermented in the bottle, leading to a sediment of yeast. The beers are known for their complex flavors and aromas, often exhibiting notes of dark fruit, spice, and a slightly tart character derived from the abbey's house yeast.
Common varieties of Floreffe beer include:
- Floreffe Blonde: A golden-blond ale.
- Floreffe Double: A dark amber ale.
- Floreffe Triple: A strong golden ale.
- Floreffe Prima Melior: The strongest beer in the Floreffe range, also a dark ale.
Floreffe beers are widely available in Belgium and are exported to various countries around the world. They are considered to be classic examples of Belgian abbey-style beers.
