John Talbot Clifton (politician)

John Talbot Clifton (1868 – 1928) was a British landowner, explorer, and Conservative politician.

Born into the wealthy Clifton family, owners of the Clifton Hall estate and large tracts of land in Lancashire, he inherited the estate upon his father's death. Clifton served as the High Sheriff of Lancashire in 1901.

He was the Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for Blackpool from 1922 to 1928. His tenure was relatively short but marked by his representation of the popular seaside resort.

Beyond his political career, Clifton was known for his adventurous spirit. He undertook numerous expeditions, including travels in North America, particularly in Canada and Alaska. He documented his experiences through writing and photography, contributing to the understanding of these regions. His travels sometimes involved big-game hunting, reflecting the practices of the era.

He married Violet Mary Beauclerk, daughter of Lord Algernon Beauclerk, in 1907.

Clifton died in 1928 while still serving as the MP for Blackpool.
