GAZelle

A gazelle is any of many antelope species within the genus Gazella or formerly considered within that genus. Gazelles are known for their swiftness, grace, and leaping abilities. They are typically found in Africa and Asia, inhabiting grasslands, savannas, and deserts.

Gazelles are generally slender animals with long legs and necks. They possess curved or ringed horns, often present in both males and females, although the male horns tend to be larger. Their coloration typically involves shades of brown and white, often with distinct dark stripes or markings on the flanks.

Gazelles are herbivores, feeding primarily on grasses, leaves, and shoots. They are highly alert and rely on their speed and agility to evade predators, such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas. Many gazelle species are social animals, living in herds that can range in size from a few individuals to several hundred.

Several species of gazelle are classified as threatened or endangered due to habitat loss, hunting, and competition with livestock. Conservation efforts are underway to protect gazelle populations and their habitats. Some notable gazelle species include Thomson's gazelle, Grant's gazelle, and Speke's gazelle. The classification of gazelles has undergone revisions, and some species formerly considered Gazella are now placed in other genera.
