Bing sutt

A bing sutt (冰室, literally "ice room") is a type of traditional Hong Kong cafe. Appearing in the early to mid-20th century, bing sutts predate the more modern cha chaan teng (tea restaurant) and were originally licensed to sell only cold drinks and snacks, as opposed to the wider variety of dishes offered by cha chaan tengs.

Bing sutts typically feature retro decor, including tiled walls, folding chairs, and handwritten menus. The atmosphere is generally more nostalgic and reminiscent of old Hong Kong than that found in cha chaan tengs.

While many bing sutts have closed due to competition from modern cafes and changing tastes, some remain open and are popular with tourists and locals seeking a taste of Hong Kong's history. Common menu items include milk tea, iced coffee, soda, sandwiches (often featuring egg or luncheon meat), and various pastries. Some bing sutts may also offer traditional Hong Kong desserts.
