Edward McMahon (MP)

Edward McMahon (born 16 November 1957) is a British Labour Party politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Leigh from 2010 to 2024.

Born in Leigh, Lancashire, McMahon was educated locally and worked as a joiner before entering politics. Prior to his election to Parliament, he served as a councillor on Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, holding various positions including Leader of the Council.

During his time in Parliament, McMahon served on various select committees and was involved in debates on issues such as local government finance, transport, and social justice. He was often seen as a strong advocate for the interests of his constituency, focusing on employment and economic development in the Leigh area.

McMahon consistently voted with the Labour Party whip and was generally considered to be a loyal member of the party. In the 2024 general election he stood down as an MP and did not seek re-election.
