Jane Stewart (politician)
Jane Stewart (born February 12, 1955) is a Canadian politician who served as a Liberal Member of Parliament for Brant from 1993 to 2004.
Stewart was first elected to the House of Commons in the 1993 federal election, defeating incumbent Progressive Conservative MP Derek Blackburn. She was re-elected in the 1997 and 2000 federal elections.
During her time in Parliament, Stewart held several ministerial positions, including Minister of National Revenue from 1999 to 2003 and Minister of Human Resources Development Canada from 2003 to 2004. Her tenure as Minister of Human Resources Development was marked by controversy surrounding alleged misspending of funds allocated to job creation programs.
Stewart lost her seat in the 2004 federal election to Conservative candidate Phil McColeman.
Since leaving politics, Stewart has been involved in various community initiatives and served on boards of directors. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from McMaster University.
