Edinburgh Western (Scottish Parliament constituency)
Edinburgh Western is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is one of nine constituencies within the Edinburgh electoral region.
The constituency was created in 1999 with the name and boundaries of the Edinburgh West Westminster constituency. From the 1999 Scottish Parliament election until the 2011 election, it was held by the Scottish Liberal Democrats. Following boundary changes enacted for the 2011 election, the redrawn constituency saw a change in the political landscape, with the Scottish National Party (SNP) gaining the seat. The constituency has since alternated between SNP and Scottish Liberal Democrat representation.
The current boundaries include areas such as Barnton, Blackhall, Cramond, Davidson's Mains, and Murrayfield. The constituency is generally considered to be a relatively affluent area of Edinburgh.
The Edinburgh electoral region also includes the constituencies of Edinburgh Central, Edinburgh Eastern, Edinburgh Northern and Leith, Edinburgh Pentlands, Edinburgh Southern, Edinburgh Western, Edinburgh Northern and Leith, Almond Valley and Linlithgow.
